OUR CHURCH IS...

A Place of Friendship

In Proverbs 17:17 it says, "A friend loves us at all times, and a brother is born for adversity." All of us know the importance of having friends. Where would we be without them? Friends are a blessing and real joy. At Steeple Point Church, we strive to be a friend who loves at all times, and the brother or sister one needs during trying times. We seek to be the friend "that sticks closer than a brother." (Prov. 18:24)

A Place for Learning

God says, concerning His Laws in Deuteronomy 5:2, "Learn them and be sure to follow them." Isaiah 1:17 says, "learn to do right! Seek Justice, encourage the oppressed. Defend the cause of the fatherless, plead the case of the widow." Learning the Word of God is a high priority to us and critical if we are to learn what pleases God. We do our best to present ourselves to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth (2 Tim. 2:15). And we have fun doing it!

A Place for Service

The Scriptures testify to the privilege and spiritual benefits of serving God and others. Stephanas and his household devoted themselves to the service of the saints. Jesus came not to be served, but to serve. He also spoke of the need to be ready to serve. As God's people we desire to be of service to you in any way we can. In this way, we too serve Him. (1 Cor. 16:15; Mk. 10:45: Lk. 12:35)

A Place for Worship

Our primary reason for existing as a group of believers is to know and worship our great God and Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. We seek to do this in spirit and in truth, in a spirit of gladness and joyful song. We want to ascribe to the Lord the glory due His name. We pray God will lead you to worship with us. (Phil. 3:10; Jn. 4:24; Ps. 100:2; 29:2)

HISTORY

Steeple Point Church has a very rich history. Founded as The First Baptist Church of Raynham, MA in 1806, its roots can be traced back to as early as 1780, being the nucleus of the Baptist Society founded in Raynham. In 1806, members met in the Robinson home on Hill St—‘around the corner’—a road in town that parallels Church Street. Members of the Robinson family donated the Church Street land on which the buildings stand.

In 1832, the sanctuary building was erected. From its inception, the church steeple would be a point of reference as one of three (3) markers to identify the boundaries of the town by the U.S. Geodetic Survey Group, our nation’s first civilian scientific agency established by President Thomas Jefferson in 1807. A brass nail was the marking which was placed high on the interior steeple structure. Here is a link to the National Geodetic Survey data.

In 1980, the Christian Education building was erected. Two members from the church left their place of employment to build the structure. All of the lumber came from trees on the property. It was sent out to a local mill and milled to specification

In the early 1990’s, our church also became the home of the Raynham Food Basket. A community-run organization that operates out of our facility, it is affiliated with the Boston Food Bank and serves families in Raynham who are in need

In the late1990’s, the church left the American Baptist Denomination over doctrinal concerns regarding their promotion of a non-biblical view regarding sexuality. We have remained an independent, non-denominational, Bible-believing fellowship.

In 2003, the church steeple had to be renovated. At this time, 18-24 inches of the original structure was removed for cost and efficiency sake.

At a February 2021 church meeting, those present voted to change the name of the church and open a new chapter in its history. In honoring our history, we intend to restore the steeple to its original height.

Since its founding, our church has stood on scripture and has preached the Gospel for over 225 years. Even though our name has changed, the message preached here has not changed. We offer a blended worship service; a great group of believers; a great spirit in our church who meet to worship in love and unity. Even though we do not have huge numbers, we have a huge heart for God.

We would love to have you come to worship with us; we look forward to meeting you.

God bless you!

LEADERSHIP

PASTOR
Rev. Gerard Knappik
Greetings. I was born and raised in Philadelphia, and brought up Roman Catholic. I was active and involved in the church during elementary school, but drifted away during my high school years. While I never fully understood Roman Catholicism, I am thankful that this is where I first heard of Christ.

Over a six to seven-year period after high school, God sent numerous believers to witness to me. He also put a desire in my heart to search out the Scriptures. I wasn't interested in religion; I wanted to know what the Scriptures taught. I was invited to a Bible study and five weeks later, I accepted the Lord as my Savior in March 1981. That decision was spiritually transforming. I was confronted with culture shock. Instead of pursuing my intended career in the CIA, God called me to pastoral ministry.

I block transferred a 2-year associate degree in marketing and management and enrolled in The Philadelphia College of Bible, now known as Cairn University. After completing the 2-year Biblical Ministries Program, I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in the Bible in 1985. I immediately enrolled in The Conservative Baptist Seminary of the East, also known as Seminary of the East, which eventually became affiliated with Bethel Seminary, St. Paul, Minnesota. I graduated with a Master of Divinity Degree in 1988.  The Lord led me to accept a call to pastor the church in Raynham, MA in 1990.

I taught numerous Bible courses for several years in the evening at NECA Bible College, affiliated with Grace Gospel Church, Swansea; I also taught church history for a couple of years at The New Testament Christian School in Norton, MA at the high school level.

I started out in 1990 as a bi-vocational pastor. In 1998, I started Packagehound Courier Inc. (same day trucking/small package delivery service) after working for the United States Postal Service for 6 to 7 years.

My wife is also from Philadelphia. We were married in 1987and are very blessed to have three adult children who love the Lord and walk with Him. We also have a wonderful church family who loves the Lord and has been a great blessing to us.

We hope you will visit to worship with us and to meet our loving church family.

Sincerely,
Pastor Gerry
